The 107 per cent rule is a regulation in Formula 1 which excludes cars which are unable to run at a speed similar to the front-runners.
The rule requires every car to record a qualifying time within 107 per cent of the time recorded by the fastest car. Any car and driver unable to meet this is likely to be excluded from the race.
The 107 per cent rule was introduced in Formula 1 in 1996 and phased out in 2002, but reintroduced for the 2011 season.
